Snowshoe trail with the CAFGO. Superb open plateau at the top after you pass thru the sparse pine tree forest, and good views from the two peaks. We had a hard time finding the way down, so this isn't a recommended descent.

I was planning to summit Chamchaude, but had second thoughts when I found myself up there on the exposed icy slope alone. I decided if it doesn't feel good - it's best to turn around, so I went back down and up the other side of the valley to Charmont Som.

We were going to Grand Rocher from Pipay on snowshoes, but the snow was 40cm fresh deep, so we turned back at Col de Merdaret http://www.cafgo.org/sortie/belledonne-grand-rocher-1925-m-1992.html?commission=randonnee-raquettes

Intended to be a simple snowshoe trip from Autrans up to La Crete de Bellecombe; but when I got to Le Bouchet a sign warned that the avalanche risk on the ridge above was too high, so I did a lower-level walk

The 11th Journee nationale de la raquette a neige. We went up to Chamrousse, but there were other events happening around the country. http://www.journee-raquettes.org/ We had a 1.5 hr guided walk around the plateau, then returned for a little hot-chocolate + Chartreuse. Once re-warmed :) we then set off on own for Lake Achard.
