Wastwater is the deepest and coldest lake in the district with the most prodigious backdrop of rock and scree imaginable. However, the best way to view this amazing lake is from above, and this can be achieved by ascending the ridge that links Whin Rigg and Illgill Head via the Greathall Gill route. A stop off at The Wasdale Inn is always welcome too!
